“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open."
I just finished teaching at the Reveal conference at Kripalu alongside Meggan Watterson, Christiane Northrup, Kate Northrup, and Maya Azucena. It was an incredible honor to reveal our souls in sisterhood, and the wildest thing happened: I danced for everyone. I dance all the time, but I haven't danced for a group of 100+ people in 15 years since college.
Before presenting an hour-long talk, I wanted to tell the story through my body first. I know they got it.
On my way back from Kripalu, I was in the passenger seat with an old friend, Suzi Banks Baum, who shared a story with me about once upon a time working with Martha Graham as a seamstress stitching costumes. My jaw dropped to the car floor. Wait...Martha's hand touched your hand, and your hand touched my hand?
The timing felt perfect as I had just performed for the first time in a long time, and awakened a desire to perform again sometime, someday, in the right way.
There are so many things I long to create. Maybe you are the same?
I have a little saying these days, "If you want to be more like the creator, create more!"
In the words of astrologer Suzie Guilette, that's what this new moon in Gemini is all about - CREATE:
"As the new moon in Gemini takes hold on June 16, remember one thing: we are exquisitely and utterly alive! If you have been holding yourself back from honoring the unique, divine zings that come through you and only you, this is the day to let any inhibiting baggage go. Be present to the drives you have, to communicate, to create, to weave an inspiring, enlivening tapestry of thought. Commit to open up dialogues of all kinds, especially with your higher self. Invite fun and festive opportunities to share your passions with like-minded souls—and then…go for it!"
As Suzie suggests, I offer you this new moon movement ritual titled, "Do Your Sacred Work." What is your sacred work? The thing only you can do!
As I take a deep breath and imagine a world where all our creative gifts live in it, I am full of so much joy.
May it be so,
P.S. I'm looking forward to go back to Kripalu August 23-28 to lead a Qoya retreat, Embody the Wild Woman Within, in the beautiful wilderness of the Berkshire mountains. Click here to learn what I'll be teaching and how to join me.
