When did you take your first Qoya class? I took my first Qoya class at a weeklong retreat Rochelle was hosting. I had no idea what I had just signed up for and didn’t really know what Qoya was but it just felt like something I had to do. After my first class I knew in my bones I needed Qoya in my life and that I needed to share it with other women in my community.
What does it mean for you to teach Qoya? I love witnessing the transformation and remembering that women experience in a Qoya class. I also love feeling the sacredness of a circle of women allowing movement to be their medicine.
What is your favorite song to dance to right now? I have so many favorite songs to dance to but “Lose Yourself to Dance” by Daft Punk really allows me to let loose.
What book has inspired you on the path to embodying the feminine? “Code Red” by Lisa Lister is a beautiful read and gives practical ways to embrace and embody the sacred feminine. I also really love “Goddesses in Everywoman” by Jean Shinoda Bolen, which talks about the various powerful archetypes we embody throughout our lives.
What would you tell someone who is thinking of taking a Qoya class for the first time? Just do it! Don’t worry about trying to understand what Qoya is. You’ll be able to feel it as soon as you allow your body to remember.
