"The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens."
-Rainer Maria Rilke
Can you feel the future calling you forward? Can you feel the smallest hints about your next steps starting to be illuminated like Broadway marquee signs? Do you feel the things in your individual life and our collective life transitioning from the place of desire or want to need? If so, you may be in alignment with the Full Moon in Capricorn shining in the sky above all of our heads this week.
It's normal to become immersed in the reality of your daily life and what is directly in front of your face. As the world shakes with injustice and we collectively wake up from our perceived limitations to co-create reality, a call emerges. The most important thing about Qoya has always been to offer the reminder, to trust the call of truth in your body.
There are many ways to connect to your essence. Qoya's intention is to beam reflections of light out like a disco ball, whispering the message that if you move your body, there is a very good chance this call that is beckoning you forward will get louder, clearer and kinder. Just like a relationship with another human being, when you create time to sincerely connect by listening, the quality of your interaction is higher. When you set an intention to explore, listen to, and honor your body's wisdom whether for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or an hour, the quality of your connection increases.
Qoya is based on the idea that through movement, we remember. We remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Wise, wild and free draw reference to the movement forms we practice in a Qoya class. Wise, calling on the wisdom of yoga, meditation, intention setting. and conscious breathing. Wild, calling on the authentic expression in dance. Free, expanding our capacity to enjoy being in our body through sensual and feminine movement. Wise, wild and free can also be some of the ways that we dance through time. Wise, honoring the wisdom of the past. Wild, calling on the expression in this present moment. Free, holding the vision of our future.
Wise/Past: Qoya calls on the ways that we can move our body to access the inner wisdom stored in our skin from all of our journeys through the past. Sarah Drew writes in her book The Gaia Codex, "The Gaia Codex is always with us, waiting to reveal its secrets. It is in our veins, our breath, and in the Mother Earth herself." We move in a way that (like reading a book) we start to remember how to read the scriptures under the skin.
Wild/Present: Qoya invites each dancer to self-initiate into a place of present moment authentic expression. In a world muted by inhibition, this can feel somewhat wild. To me, wild is the choice to express truth rather than repress it. It's the precognitive primal pulse guiding our intuitive embodied knowing. Just like when you have a conversation with a really good friend and you find the words that truly express how you're feeling in that moment, in Qoya you're becoming fluent in the language of your own body and expressing yourself through movement with the same precision and potency of your words.
Free/Future: Qoya also holds the vision of our highest individual and collective destiny by encouraging us to expand our capacity to what feels good in the body with sensual movement. Of course, it's normal for the body to express its aches and pains, but what you look for is often what you see. You can breathe in the gift of the present moment, offering that moment of presence to hold the possibility of a future that inspires your soul. That one moment of choice to keep dreaming in the direction of the highest destiny possible helps you remember that these moments of pleasure-filled presence are just as much a part of daily life as the challenges are. In fact, the contrast between the two is what highlights and heightens life's pleasurable experiences.
Our resident astrologer, Virginia Rosenberg, shares:
The Full Moon in Capricorn on June 28, 2018 (12:53amE ST) is reality setting in. Heavy emotions and seriousness feel weighted like gravity. A choice has been made, and there is no going back. Separations are final. Grief is praise. Take time to honor what was, and look squarely towards what is. Commitments are definitive. Each time we make a pledge towards our next phase of mastery, inevitably fears and challenges will arise. We are made for them. We are fit to overcome them. Limitation is an invitation to rise. These are our mountains to climb. Take yourself to task. Turn difficulty into ambition and into closer bonding with what you love. This moon is about aligning with your essence. Calling upon the ancient wisdom residing in your bones. It’s about testing your mettle, and embracing your purpose. This moon carries themes of home, family, and inheritance, and the memories kept within stones. Call in protection. We got this. We are made for it.
How is the future calling you forward and how committed to it are you? Do you have all the things you need to begin again on the journey? As you explore the map of what's happening in your personal world and our collective world, imagine the compass of your body guiding you to stay on the path of embodied truth, the truth that always vibrates in the consciousness of love.
Would you like to explore your ability to feel your body's wisdom, wildness, and freedom as a compass to guide your way? How about now? You can follow the video here or use these prompts to guide yourself through your own experience.
1st: Start with Shaking. Whatever stands between you and your ability to hold a vision for the future that inspires you, shake it out back to the earth right now.
2nd: Yoga as Prayer. Call your intention in, and just like you would say the words, "Today my intention is..." express your intention through the way you move your body.
3rd: Free Dance. What would it feel like if you fully committed yourself to this vision of the future? Dance that feeling.
4th: Hip Opening. Soak in sensation like a sponge soaks in water and let yourself be filled up with a few moments of embodied joy to bring salve to places where there is pain. As you reset your body's nervous system with movements that feel good, you increase the flow of energy and vitality you have to offer the world to fight the good fight.
You can choose any songs you like to do this. If you'd like some suggestions, I made a playlist with 4 song suggestions for each part in order (Shaking, Yoga as Prayer, Free Dance, and Hip Opening).
If you'd like to do a video to be guided that way, here's one of our free movement ritual videos, Committing to Your Future. Remember, we also have a library of these that you can do anytime you're inspired.
Whatever feeling emerges from your dance, honor it in some way as you dance into your day. Deepen your relationship to trusting your body by honoring movement as medicine. Each and every time you move with intention, notice if it works for you. The best practices are the ones that work for us as we cycle through different phases of our lives. The way to know which practices work the best for you is by doing them.
With this Full Moon in Capricorn, may you be supported by the many ancestors who offered their lives to this pulse of consciousness arising. May you take your place in the timeline of this moment and bring your commitment to life and all creation forward.
