Laurel Carpenter

New York, NY

Laurel, otherwise known as Alexandra Pearl, is a Lindy Hopper and wanna-be flapper who decided to explore feminine movement and found Qoya!

When did you take your first Qoya class? This past November 2013 with Kitty Cavalier

What does it mean for you to teach Qoya? It's meant rediscovering my feminine sensuality and reveling in that movement. Bringing the joy and beauty of hip circles to other women is marvelous! I love the mantra Wild, Wise and Free. It freed me from the structure of partnered dancing and perfect steps.

What is your favorite song to dance to right now? Percolatin' Blues, by Smoking Time Jazz Club

What book has inspired you on the path to embodying the feminine? Seductress, by Betsy Prioleau

What would you tell someone who is thinking of taking a Qoya class for the first time?  It is so freeing to dance to "what feels good" and to let go of having to be perfect. Embrace it.
