Gena grew up with a family that loved to dance. There was always music playing and someone dancing! She remembers family gatherings, which were almost every weekend, and sneaking out of her bed and quietly watching her grandparents, aunts, uncles and parents dancing. "The room was full of laughter and love. It was quite beautiful. There is a magic that happens when you get lost into the rhythm of the music and move your body in a way that feels good! Life can be very busy and stressful, with one full time job and two part time jobs plus one very beautiful daughter. I often forget about how liberating it is to let go and dance."  She teaches yoga and is a make-up artist and an aesthetician. "For a long time yoga was my only sanctuary but I craved more. I took my first Qoya class was a few years back. And of course, I loved it! Surrounding myself with amazing women who all are going through the same thing I am? And we dance together, practice yoga and I am always learning a new dance technique. It is a girls night out!! We laugh, we dance and we connect!! I am so grateful for Rochelle and Qoya!"

When did you take your first Qoya class? My first Qoya experience was at Four Gates with Colleen LaSota. I had such a fun time dancing with so many amazing women.

What does it mean for you to teach Qoya? I have had so many wonderful insights as a student of Qoya, I was inspired to join the Qoya dream team and create a space for women to come my class to move their bodies.

What is your favorite song to dance to right now? Proud Mary by Tina Turner

What book has inspired you on the path to embodying the feminine? It's not a book, it's cards. I really enjoy my Goddess Oracle deck! I have learned so much!

What would you tell someone who is thinking of taking a Qoya class for the first time?  Qoya is a great way to connect with your body! Most of it is structured so you will find it easy and comfortable to follow. There is a lot of movement, so dress comfortably. You don't need to be a professional dancer or have had lessons at some point in your life. I have no professional dance experience. Come and try it!!!
